namaste, I'm Sahil

I cook pure, healthy, tasty food for the people I love.

I stopped eating onion and garlic in middle school when I started going to my temple. In our tradition, food shapes more than the body. It shapes your thoughts and actions, and pure, simple food is part of a life built on minimizing harm. I grew up pretty Americanized, eating meat, onion, garlic, all of it, so the transition was hard for my whole family. But somewhere along the way, we stopped missing it. The food started to feel lighter. Cleaner. More ours.

Then in college, I fell in love with cooking. Home from class by lunch, raiding the fridge, watching YouTube videos by the hundreds (over a thousand at this point, eight years in and counting). What I figured out fast: my biggest joy isn't cooking. It's cooking for people. Friends and family who eat onion and garlic every day sit at my table and never once notice it's missing. That's the whole point.

Food is my love language. It's the one thing that connects everyone, no matter the situation. Feeding someone is the key to their heart. This site is me sharing that: the recipes, the experiments, the things I'm excited about, and hopefully a new way of looking at what “pure” food can be.

the philosophy

Why no meat, onion, or garlic?

For me it's rooted in ahimsa, living with as little hurt to other beings as possible. What we eat affects more than the body; it shapes our thoughts and actions too. Onion and garlic carry tamasic properties, so my family and I leave them out, and the purest food is the food made at home. Cooking this way asks more of the cook: brighter spices, better technique, real balance. That's the fun part.

🕊️Ahimsa

Non-violence. I eat vegetarian to live with as little harm to other beings as possible.

Pure food, pure body

Clean, pure food keeps the body pure. What I eat shapes how I think and act.

💪Healthy & simple

Food that is high in protein and made with simple ingredients. Nothing it doesn't need.
